My what a multicultural lot. I went to the school 69-74 and was probably the only boy in the school who got on with Taffy Edwards. Football does that to people. I remember my first caning from Jonny Gawlor, my part in iolanthe, playing for the first eleven at 14, my first form tutor Mr Crossman, my last form Tutor Mr Mander, getting slippered by a prefect, writers cramp from the school rules, a visit to school by Ted Ray and I had a great mate in Roy Taylor, never seen him since. The best 5 years of my life, full of education & learning and I loved every minute of it.

I was there 69-74 as well and I had a great time (although I probably didn't realise it at the time).
I remember singing in 'Pirates of Penzance', school camps with the CCF, playing Rugby at Leyfield Road, maths with 'Ma' Muir, poking fun at Jack Clancy, french with Mr Cowie, and Woodwork with Mr Brown.
Remember the CCF room on top floor? It wasn't just the prefects who had their own common room! :)
Wonder what happened to Dave Williams (both of them... DT and D), Dave Carr (a terrific rugby forward) Wingy Wingham? (CCF) Tony Ravera? (CCF)
What a loss the school was to the community!
Wish I was still in touch with more of the lads.

I was there from 69-74 as well and in retrospect wasted the greatest resource ever been put at my disposal. Oh to have the same opportunity again.

Games on a Wednesday afternoon at Holly Lodge breaking the week up perfectly.

I was too busy being a numpty to appreciate what was before me if I'm to be honest.
In the B stream throughout my stay. I appeared in HMS Pinafore as one of the 'many sisters, cousins and aunts'. It is one of my most cherished memories, being on stage performing in such a fantastic production.
Spending many an afternoon trying to figure out 'Ollie Rafters' incessant rants (to himself), I often dreamt of being somewhere else. How I wish I could be there again.
Dinner times were spent either queuing at the chippy in Moss Street or in a cafe on London Road playing 'Call my Bluff' with Mally and 'Ducky' Dave Highton.
To my eternal shame I was not the most pleasant person to some of my fellow pupils, and would beg forgiveness for my behaviour from those I offended.
Although not making the most of this magnificent school I carried enough of the core values away with me that have helped me achieve in later life.

I attended setween 68 and 73.
..Hated taffy Evans...and he hated me...He took us for History AND P.E , and as the Gym in the yard was constantly vandalised we had double history lessons for one of the terms.
Hated Jac Clancy even more...had him for maths he was a little hitler and even looked like him...can still recall his favourite call of "YOU BOYYYY" when he wanted your attention etc...mind you he usually chucked the chalk at your head for that.

I too remember the chippy in moss street...the sweet shop on the corner of brunswick road and cross country running of a saturday morning..followed by coming home and watching The Banana Splits on the telly ...followed by making a start on my 4 subject weekend homework.......Much, much more to tell,,,,will post again soon.

I too was there, between 70-75.Great memories.Trouble was I/we did more laughing than learning,(usually at the prefects expense)which is something I,ve regretted ever since. My first form master was Mr Huddart(great teacher, great rugby player). The then headmaster Mr Woodward once told me"Icould eat two of you for breakfast",I believed him.Others I remember,Maggie Muir,Kenny Hyde,PUJ,Taffy Edwards,Crossman,Clancy,Derbyshire(who once caught me smoking and I got 4 of the cane for it),Hewitt,Ellis Clarke. P.S.I hope Dickie Darton is still around to correct my grammer.

I was there 65-72. Sang in 'Pirates of Penzance' in 71(?) Acted in 'Zigger Zagger'in '72 worked behind the scenes for lots of other productions. Played in the football teams every year up to 1stXI for a couple of years. Gained school colours with the Cricket 1stXI for winning the shield in 1971. Lots of great, great memories, but like some of the other writers, didn't appreciate it all at the time. I've now spent a 36 year career in education.... Ellis Clark (Nobby) died this past week (RIP Nobby)- he was my form master in 5A and taught me French for about 5 years. Looking back, despite some difficult teachers, it was great times... wish I'd have been smarter to appreciate it while it lasted!

Great site and my first post, names coming flooding back, yes I remember Ravera and wingfield, both older than me but both in CCF as was I. Glass was another lad. I remember well the CCF room and the firing range, Mr Derbyshire drinks in my local pub I am led to believe (yet to see him there) Taffy was a tyrant but remember a great geology field trip to colomendy. I got butted by fitzy for nicking his bird !! Fab memories of the school, Mr Woodward was class and I served tea to Ted Ray on founders day, unfortunately at the same time woodward olaced his hand on my head and said "my Traynor, dont you have a funny shaped head" traumatised since, appy days. I hope to post some more memories, maybe people could reply if they hit a nerve etc, TJ`s, the chippy on brunswick rd and the little sweet / ciggie shop round the corner, what was it called, magnesium ribbon down the bog !! smoking in the bog, newt baiting etc.

A long and very enjoyable walk down memory lane . First my thanks to all those taking the time and effort to create such a wealth of information and anecdotes .
I attended 59/67 somehow escaping with the required mix of "O" & "A" results and the confidence[ gained for the most part c/o a set of three stripes and the ability to fire 303's , F/Ns & bren guns with Sid Chalk's CCF ] to face and convince a Civil Service interview panel that I was worthy of employment within the ranks of HM Customs & Excise . I have looked at the '67 school photo and shown family & friends my mug shot gazing at the camera clearly pondering the meaning of life should I survive the Ma Hill regime ! A thought clearly shared by many of the contributions ~ and survivor's all ]. But what of my class mates and " brothers in arms "? Paul Stenton , Chas Cross , Bob Thompson , Ken Lawrence and others I should remember but are names lost in the mist of time . I wonder if anyone will chance upon this postimg and remember me ?
Good wishes & best of health to all .
